How To Resolve Error Messages While Activating Your e-SIM (For Android And IOS Users)

To dive into the different error messages you might encounter while activating your e-SIM and how to fix them, let's first understand what error messages are. Imagine you're halfway into activating your e-SIM and a dialog box appears stating an unexpected event, maybe 'Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change' which happens to be one of the most common. This is an error message. It is to notify you that something isn't right with your process.

So What Do You Do If You Experience An Error Message While Activating Your e-SIM?

You must first check if your device is locked or unlocked. E-SIM, like sim cards, cannot work on phones locked to a particular mobile network, this is because your e-SIM provider will be the data source for your device. If your phone or tablet is locked, you will only be able to use a SIM card from the mobile network it’s locked to.

Here's a foolproof way to ascertain 100% if your phone is locked or unlocked. Since different IOS and android comes with varying settings setup, this method will leave you without hitches.

Step 1

First, turn off your phone’s power.

Step 2

Remove your phone’s SIM card with a removal tool or a paper clip.

Step 3

Replace the SIM card with the other SIM card from a different carrier.

Step 4

Turn on the power again.

Step 5

You can now see that the carrier’s name at the top of your home screen has changed.

Step 6

Dial a call. If the call connects, then your phone is unlocked. If you find out your device is locked there is no need to fret.

Locked phones are much easier to unlock now than it once was.

It might cost you a small fee, and sometimes you'll need to wait until your contract is up, but this is hinged on the network your phone is locked to. So go ahead and contact your carrier.

I just added an esim to my Samsung S21+ and had to solve the following problems. I had two hard sims in my phone. First error was "Wifi or mobile data needed to add esim " despite having mobile data on my 2nd hard sim. Removed Sim1,put Sim2 in slot 1. Under “More Sim settings”, unlock all esim settings. Esim then added easily without errors.
